SCENE ONE

SONG ONE:

Celebrate the Season

4 to 6 PUPPETS SINGING AS A CHOIR on the top stage
and the four main characters singing together on the bottom stage

CHORUS:
(1, 3 & 5 puppets look at 2,4 and 6 puppets.)

Celebrate the Season
Celebrate the Season of our Lord
Give a gift because
The Greatest gift of all was
Christ who came Christmas day
Celebrate the Season

1: (Puppets look straight at audience)
Come celebrate with song
Caroling merrily along
Come celebrate - I can hardly wait
To sing of Jingle Bells so loud and strong (back to chorus)

2: (Puppets look straight at audience)
Come celebrate with praise
Thank the Lord for Happy Holidays
Come celebrate - Let the presents wait
Thank Him for Jesus and the gift He gave .....gift He gave
(back
to chorus)

(All puppets disappear except Billy and Jenny)

Jenny and Billy are talking together, LOOKING AT EACH OTHER!

Jenny:
Billy, guess what I'M getting for Christmas?

Billy:

I don't know. What?

Jenny:
Well, Grandma Brown is going to give me a Cabbage Patch doll, and Aunt Nellie is going to give me a new play kitchen with a sink and everything! And Uncle Dan and Aunt Polly are going to give me a new sled and then I can ride down the hill in the snow!

And my Cousin Samantha made me a beautiful new sweater and even some mittens to match it.
And Mommie and Daddy are giving me a new bicycle!
And Paw Paw John is going to get me a .....

Billy: (interrupting suddenly)
Wait a minute Jenny! Do you know how many presents you're getting? Too many -- that's for sure ! You know, you're going to have so many presents you won't even have a place to put them !

Jenny:
O yes I will too, cause Aunt Marilyn is going to give me a big new toy box!

Billy:
Oh brother! Yeah, and it'll already be full, just with your Christmas presents too!

Jenny:
I'm going to have so many new toys I'm just going to throw away my old ones. They're no fun to play with any more, anyway.

Billy:
Jenny! I know what you can do! Why don't you give some of your old toys to Peggy Sue. You know her daddy hasn't had a job for a long time, and her mother has been in the hospital. I don't think she is going to get any presents for Christmas.

Jenny:
Oh, Billy! You're always full of dumb ideas! I don't have any time to give my toys to Peggy Sue! Besides, Peggy Sue is SO BORING! She doesn't have a bicycle, or any neat toys,---and she doesn't even have any friends!

(Grandpa comes in during Jenny's dialogue)

GP:
Hello, Jenny and Billy!

Jenny:
Oh, Hi Grandpa! Did you get my Christmas present yet?
Oh, I'm so excited I can hardly wait for Christmas to get here.
Grandpa, how many presents are you and Grandma going to get me?
Will you give me a hint?

GP:
Jenny, Jenny! You really are anxious about Christmas, aren't you? I believe that you are thinking about all the things that everyone is going to GIVE you, and you are forgetting something very important.

Let me tell you about the biggest and the best gift that anyone ever gave!

Billy:
Grandpa, If you tell Jenny about that, she'll just be wanting IT TOO!
That's all she wants to talk about is PRESENTS, PRESENTS, PRESENTS!

GP:
Never mind that Billy, because the BEST gift anybody ever gave was
the VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS PRESENT.

Jenny:
THE VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS PRESENT!! Oooo, Grandpa! What was the very first Christmas present?

GP:
Well Jenny, that's an old, old story.

Puppets all turn toward opposite stage and watch as shepherds and angels act.

Lights rise on actors.

MUSIC BEGINS - PUPPET CHOIR returns on stage.

SONG TWO:

While Shepherds watched their flocks

STAGE DRAMA - LIVE ACTORS
Shepherds come in and gather around a campfire, sitting in a semi-circle facing center stage. Angel comes in and stands  in center stage facing shepherds with hands reached upward, pretending to speak to the shepherds. About half-way through the song, puppets disappear.
While shepherds watched their flocks by night
all seated on the ground
The angel of the Lord appeared and glory shone around
And glory shone around

Fear not, he said, for mighty dread
had seized their troubled minds
And tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind, To you and all mankind.
To you in David's town this day is born of David's line
the Savior who is Christ the Lord
and this shall be the sign - and this shall be the sign
The heavenly babe you there shall find
To human view displayed
and gently wrapped in swaddling clothes and in a manger laid

Puppet choir disappears
Lights go down on actors, up on puppets

SCENE TWO

Peggy Sue comes on stage alone as song ends. She paces back and forth as she speaks, as if frustrated, talking to herself

PS:
How am I going to buy Christmas presents for Mommie and Daddy? Mommie really needs a some new slippers to wear while she is in the hospital, and Daddy's old work gloves are all worn out. He'll really need a good pair for his new job.

GRANDPA Comes in and listens to PEGGY SUE worrying

PEGGY SUE  (Does not look at Grandpa yet.)
Oh, I do want to give them something, but all the money I've saved in my piggybank is not enough. I've got to find a way to earn some more money. Maybe Mrs. Green will let me rake the leaves in her yard. And Mr. Ferguson might pay me for walking his dog in the evenings, and maybe....

GP:  (Comes up while Peggy Sue is still talking)
Hi, Peggy Sue!

PS:
Hi, Mr. Smith!

GP:
Peggy Sue, are you are making plans for a big Christmas?

PS:
Well, not a great big one Mr. Smith. Things haven't gone too well at our house this year. My daddy is out of work and my mom is in the hospital. I don't think there will be very many gifts under the tree this Christmas. But I do want to give something to Mommie and Daddy, because they are the best Mommie and Daddy in the world.

GP:
That's very thoughtful of you Peggy Sue. It isn't often that a little girl like yourself remembers to give a gift to her mom and dad. You know, it's important for us all to remember that the Spirit of Christmas is not about RECEIVING, but it's about GIVING!

PS:
Mr. Smith, I learned in church that every good gift comes down from our Father in Heaven. God has given us so many good things that we should be thankful for what we have, and we should use what we have to give to others.

GP:
That reminds me of the VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS PRESENT.

PS:
What was the VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS PRESENT, Mr. Smith?

GP:
Well, Peggy Sue, it's an old, old story.

MUSIC BEGINS -

SONG THREE:

Silent Night

Puppet choir comes back on puppet stage

Joseph and Mary and baby Jesus take their places at a manger scene

Silent Night, Holy Night
All is calm, All is Bright
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
sleep in heavenly peace - sleep in heavenly peace
(repeat verse)

Puppet choir disappears after song ends

SCENE THREE

Billy - (Coming back on stage alone)
It's hard trying to think of a gift for someone that already has everything in the world like Jenny. It'll be easier to find something for Grandpa, cause he's not so particular. I think I'll get Grandpa some fishin' lures! He always needs more fishin' lures!

Jenny (Bursting in - interrupts loudly)
Oh Billy, I'm SO UPSET! Mommie just told me that Aunt Sally isn't coming home for Christmas, and that means I won't be getting any present from her! I can't believe it! Everything's going wrong! I hope nobody else changes their mind about coming home for Christmas. Then I won't hardly get ANYTHING for Christmas!

GP:
Jenny, you should be thankful for everything you have, and you shouldn't
worry yourself with the number of gifts you will be receiving for Christmas

Jenny:
But Grandpa! Christmas is my most important time of the year.  It's the only time I can get all the things I want.

GP:
But Jenny, Christmas didn't begin as a time to GET. It began as a time to GIVE!

Jenny:
Grandpa, How did Christmas BEGIN anyway?

GP:
Well, the VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS is when God gave us His very special gift of the Baby Jesus.

MUSIC BEGINS

SONG FOUR:

He Is Born - Puppet choir returns

CHORUS: Puppets look at audience
He Is Born, the Divine Christ Child
Play the Music, Play the tuneful oboe
He Is Born the Divine Christ Child
Sing we all of the Savior love

Verse 1: Puppets look at each other
Through long ages of the past
All things have foretold His coming
Through long ages of the past
Now the time has come at last
(Repeat Chorus)

Verse 2: Puppets look at each other
Jesus Lord of all the world
Coming as a Child among us
Jesus Lord of all the world
Precious gift of God to man

____________________________________________________________

SCENE FOUR

Billy:
Grandpa, I don't understand what's so important about the Baby Jesus.
I know that the angels sang, and the shepherds came, and the wise men brought gifts,  but WHY? What was so important about the Baby Jesus that made him so special?

Jenny:
Billy, you should already know that!

GP:
Be patient Jenny. Lot's of people don't know why Jesus was so important.  Listen carefully and I'll tell you why. You see, God loved all the people in the whole wide world, but they were very bad, and they tried to forget about God. So God came down from Heaven to a Manger in Bethlehem. This Baby Jesus would grow into a man that would show us all the love of God. He gave so many good things to the people. One day He gave sight to a blind man. Then he gave hearing to a deaf man. He gave healing to many that were sick and crippled, too.  But the greatest thing He gave us was His life. Jesus knew that our sins would keep us from going to heaven, so he died for our sins so we will all have a chance to go to Heaven!

Jenny:
God gave us His love!

Billy:
I'm glad Jesus was born. He was THE VERY FIRST CHRISTMAS PRESENT!

GP:
That's why we give one another GIFTS on CHRISTMAS, Jenny! We give because GOD first gave!

Music Begins -

Song Five:

Rise, come and see the King

PUPPET CHOIR COMES ON STAGE

Come Hear the Joy, A Sweet Baby Boy!
Oh rise! Come and see the King!
Help us to tell our joyous Noel,
Rise, come and see the King

CHORUS:
Angels are singing, Glad tidings bringing
Come hear the story, Come sing His glory
Rise, come and see the King (Repeat this line on last chorus)
Shake off your sleep and leave all your sheep
Oh Rise come and see the King!
Jesus has come, God's dear Chosen One,
Oh Rise, Come and see the King! (Go to Chorus)

Our Savior's Birth brings peace to the earth
Oh Rise, Come and see the King!
Come one and all to His royal call,
Rise, come and see the King!

____________________________________________________________

SCENE FIVE

Jenny and Peggy Sue are outside together.

PS:
Oh, Jenny! I'm so excited! Mrs. Davidson paid me to help her bake Christmas cookies for her family, and NOW I have enough money to buy some new Slippers for Mommie, and some new work gloves for my Daddy.

Jenny:
Do you know it's only Seven more days till Christmas! And guess what I'M getting. I'm getting a Cabbage Patch Doll, and a new bicycle, and a sweater with mittens, and a snow sled, and a play kitchen, and that's not even everything! What are you getting for Christmas, Peggy Sue?

PS:
My Daddy hasn't had a job for a long time, and my mommie's in the hospital, so I don't think we will be getting any presents for Christmas this year.

Jenny - (Grandpa enters during this)
You're not getting any presents? How can you not get any presents? I thought everybody got presents!

GP:
Jenny, the Bible says that it is more blessed to GIVE than it is to receive. Peggy Sue is going to have one of the best feelings this Christmas because she has learned that the joy of Christmas is not in GETTING but in GIVING!

SCENE SIX

Jenny (CRYING)
I feel SO BAD! I don't want Christmas to come if Peggy Sue isn't going to get any presents. There's GOT to be a way to get Peggy Sue some
Christmas presents!

Billy:
Jenny, why don't you give Peggy Sue all of your old toys. They won't be old to her, and she will think they are great! Besides, you are going to have plenty of new presents, and you won't need them any more.

Jenny:
Billy, I know what I'm going to do. I'm going to clean them all up real nice, and ask mommie to help me wrap them up very special so I can give Peggy Sue a BUNCH of PRESENTS!

SONG ONE:

Celebrate the Season

CHORUS:
Celebrate the Season
Celebrate the Season of our Lord
Give a gift because
The Greatest gift of all was
Christ who came Christmas day

SCENE SEVEN

ALL FOUR MUPPETS ON STAGE

PS:
Jenny, how can I ever thank you for being so Kind to me this Christmas

Billy:
Peggy Sue, it was your good example that made Jenny realize how selfish she was.

GP:
I think we have all learned an important lesson Billy!

Jenny:
I think this is the best Christmas I've ever had! You know, it really is more blessed to give than it is to receive!

LAST SONG:

Feliz Navidad

Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad,
from the bottom of my
heart.
Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad,
from the bottom of my
heart.

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas
From the bottom of my heart!
