Alcoholic Drinks Should Christians Drink
Alcoholic Beverages?

What Does The Bible Say?

By Ken Raggio

Here is what the Bible says about drinking alcoholic beverages:

Proverbs 20:1 - "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise."

Leviticus 10:9 - "Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations."

Proverbs 31:4-5 - "It is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted."

Proverbs 23:31-32 - "Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder."

Habakkuk 2:15 - "Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also..."

Isaiah 5:22 - "Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink."

Isaiah 28:7 - "They also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment."

Ephesians 5:18 - "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit."

Proverbs 23:20-21 - "Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty..."

1 Corinthians 5:11 - "But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat."

1 Corinthians 6:10 - "...Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Drunkards and Gluttons

"Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: ...Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. ...At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder."

Refuse all mind-altering substances. Righteous men must be sober, moderate and temperate.

Proverbs 23:2-3 "And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite."

God has no use for inebriated "Christians." No one who is in an unnecessarily altered-state of mind is useful to the Kingdom of God. WE MUST BE SOBER.

Sobriety is one of the great virtues of Godly men and women, as demonstrated throughout the Bible.

Some have argued that Jesus turned the water into wine. But we absolutely MUST deduct that it was NEW wine, NOT fermented. It is inconceivable that Jesus would have contradicted all the Bible's many teachings against the use of alcoholic beverages.

Jesus would NOT have broken this commandment: "Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken..." Habakkuk 2:15.

If Jesus had turned the water into FERMENTED wine, He would have been guilty of giving his neighbor drink, putting the bottle to him, and making him drunken. Jesus would have been condemned by the woes of Habakkuk 2:15.

Thus, we have no choice but to believe that He did NOT provide alcohol to the wedding guests.

NOBODY should drink alcoholic drinks. Neither should you keep company with those who do. That is what the BIBLE says.

What more proof should you need?

P.S. - You should assume that these verses also apply equally to any and all substances that have mind-altering or inebriating effects. The logic and purpose is identical.

"All excess is ill, but drunkenness is of the worst sort.
It spoils health, dismounts the mind, and unmans men.
It reveals secrets, is quarrelsome, lascivious, impudent, dangerous and bad."
William Penn (1644 - 1718)
