The Bible on the Future of America

Immorality and crime are in the highest offices. What will come of it?

By Ken Raggio

(Written in December 1998)

This past week we impeached the President. We bombed Baghdad. And we effectively ran off the Speaker of the House.

The President's impeachment was depicted as a purely partisan politics and "sexual McCarthyism" by some. Others declared it was the only way to save the nation. The House was divided right down the middle.

Ultimately, however, the President was impeached on two counts:
Article 1. Perjury before the Grand Jury, and
    Article 3. Obstruction of Justice.

His impeachment was not for sexual immorality, but for alleged criminal acts.

The Senate will decide during the Impeachment Trial whether or not to remove him from office. That trial may extend into the spring or summer of next year. That trial would require a two-thirds majority in the Senate to remove the President from office, a vote that very few expect. Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist will preside over the trial, as required by the Constitution.

Democratic Minority Leader Richard Gephardt declared that "We need to stop destroying imperfect people at the altar of unattainable morality."

President Clinton called it the "politics of personal destruction" that was unraveling all of Washington D.C.

More accurately, it is the scriptural axiom which Moses set forth - "Be sure your sins will find you out."

America elected a man with a reputation for lying (he has been called "Slick Willy" for years), because America loves a lie. They love liberal politics, welfare and entitlement programs, new age spirituality, sexual licentiousness, etc.

They were not looking for a man of conservative morals, honesty or integrity. They were looking for someone who would not challenge their own lack of convictions. And they got him.

Now, to the bitter end, the popularity polls continue to support the President in his folly.

But "the wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God," Psalm 9:17. That is a promise from God. I believe that God has placed this nation on the stumbling block.

Ezekiel prophesied the fall of Israel for their backsliding. He warned of how it would come.

"They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumbling block of their iniquity," Ezekiel 7:19.

If this prophecy comes to America, it will indeed bring the economic collapse that all the forecasters refuse to accept. No matter how robust the economy or how bullish the stock market, if God says that it is time for America to be punished for its apostasy, it all will fall. This kind of judgment does not only come to Israel. It comes to any people who forget God.

Will America fall? There can be little doubt. Our nation is increasingly divided along moral, spiritual and religious lines. Huge blocks of American people adhere to a philosophy of materialistic prosperity, and even the spirituality of the masses is no longer focused on the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but rather on the many other gods of this world.

Jesus said, "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand," Matthew 12:25.

Is the future of the United States in peril? I say that it is. What will happen? It will go the way of all the earth.

The entire world system will eventually collapse. The prophets saw long ago that modern Babylon, as a global empire, will fall.

Daniel interpreted King Nebuchadnezzar's dream about the image. The golden head represented ancient Babylon. The silver breast represented the ancient Medo-Persian empire, the brass thighs represented ancient Greece, the iron legs, ancient Rome. In the end of time, a rock hewn out of the mountain came and CRUSHED all the kingdoms of men.

Any student of the Bible should be able to tell you that this prophesies the triumph of Jesus Christ over the nations of the world in the end time. That would include America. America will be forced to drink of the wine of the wrath of God along with all the other evil nations, as written in Revelation 14:10 and 16:9.
