The Future Of Egypt In Bible Prophecy Do The Historic Changes Taking Place In Egypt Have Prophetic Significance?
It is impossible to say EXACTLY how the uprisings of January 2011 in Egypt will ultimately resolve, but there are Bible prophecies about the future of Egypt that seem to be powerfully linked to the current situation.
Since the days of Anwar Sadat, Egypt has been an ally of Israel and the West. Sadat met with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and US President Jimmy Carter during the "Camp David Accords" in 1978, and the result was the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty of March 26, 1979. That move resulted in Egypt being expelled from the Arab League, and for nearly two years, an Islamic revolution gradually came to a boil, ending in the assassination of Sadat in October of 1981.
Sadat's assassination was carried out by an Islamic squad during an annual victory parade celebrating Egypt's crossing the Suez in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The squad acted with the approval of Islamic Cleric Omar Abdel-Rhaman ("the blind cleric"), who is also known for his role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, and for having close ties with principals in the Al Qaeda organization, including Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri. Since 1928, The Muslim Brotherhood, the world's most influential Islamist movement, has been at work from its home in Egypt, trying to establish a global Islamic Empire. Its credo is, “Allah is our objective; the Quran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader; Jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations.” Although the Brotherhood is officially banned in Egypt, it has nevertheless infiltrated society with its beliefs that all of society should be based on the Quran and Sharia Law. The Muslim Brotherhood has enormous influence in Egyptian society. More than one-fifth of Parliament members are from the Brotherhood, and many of the professors in the Cairo University are intellectuals from the Muslim Brotherhood. 30-40% of the Egyptian public support the objectives of the Muslim Brotherhood. The MB operates in many nations of the world, including the United States, where its written goals include "eliminating and destroying Western Civilization from within," (as written in "General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America," 2005.)
According to the "Wall Street Journal," (1/31/11), in an article entitled, "Muslim Group Backs Secular Struggle," the Muslim Brotherhood is backing Mohamed el Baradei as the leader of the Egyptian uprising/revolution against Hosni Mubarak. El Baradei was formerly the head of the United Nations International Atomic Energy Association (IAEA) which presided over the weapons inspections in Iraq and Iran.
El Baradei has been seen to be sympathetic with the Iranian Government, and simultaneously frustrating Western powers in his unwillingness to make accusations against Islamic governments. In sober fact, El Baradei has many years of sympathetic associations with the Muslim Brotherhood. El Baradei is a practicing Muslim, and he despises Israel. El Baradei spoke against Israel on his Twitter account, on May 31, 2010, saying, "The Israeli aggression on the Freedom Flotilla exposes an inhumane regime, a blot on Arab conscience. Open the crossings immediately." The future of Egypt seems destined to follow the pattern of Iran, following the ouster of the Shah of Iran in 1979. Within one month after the Shah of Iran went into exile, radical Islamic extremists were in control of the Iranian government. Their leader was the Ayatollah Khomeini. That was the beginning of Iran's grand descent into totalitarian Islamic-fundamentalist dictatorship.
It does not take a lot of foresight to anticipate a similar fate in Egypt. Although so much of the present uprising in the streets of Cairo and other Egyptian population centers is purported to be a call for "DEMOCRACY!!", the likelihood that Egypt will actually become a truly democratic environment is almost nil. If and when Mubarak falls from power, it is almost certain that the Muslim Brotherhood will immediately shift its rhetoric to a far more outspoken and radical version of Islamic Jihad and imposition of Sharia law. Their goal will be to establish Egypt as a SUNNI MUSLIM state under an Islamic Caliphate and Sharia law.
WHAT DO THE BIBLE PROPHECIES FORETELL? I have written two major articles that apply to the current Egyptian situation (although both articles have been in circulation for more than one year). One article explains the Bible prophecies about the infamous "Battle of Armageddon." The second article explains what the Bible teaches about the identity of the future Antichrist, as prophesied in Daniel 11. I urge you to read both of those articles at the end of this article. Conclusion #1 is that EGYPT will make a move in a PRE-ARMAGEDDON WAR. Egypt will push against the ASSYRIANS (Turkey, Syria, Iran) and will be defeated by them. According to Daniel 11:40, 42-43, the Assyrian Antichrist will come against Egypt "like a whirlwind," and "shall have power over ...all the precious things of Egypt." What does that mean? You must understand that the entire Arab League (22 member nations, 4 observers), although almost entirely Muslim, is plagued with a deep division between the SUNNI Muslims and the SHIA Muslims. Essentially all Muslims believe that an Islamic savior will soon come on the scene - a MAHDI. The Muslim MAHDI is the counterpart to the Christian Messiah. The SUNNI Muslims have their stronghold in MECCA and MEDINA, Saudi Arabia. The Muslim Brotherhood is SUNNI. They all expect that the world will soon be ruled by their MAHDI. The SHIA Muslims (including Iran and Syria) are also known as "TWELVERS," because they believe that the coming Mahdi will be the RE-APPEARANCE of the Twelfth Mahdi (a direct descendant of Mohammed) who allegedly disappeared sometime around 874AD. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran, claims to have communicated with the 12th Mahdi, and expects that he will be revealed to the entire world in the near future, during an apocalyptic global war. Ahmadinejad is willing to provoke that conflagration to encourage the 12th Mahdi to appear. This is the same man who has repeatedly sworn to "wipe Israel off the map." He believes the 12th Mahdi will soon appear to convert the entire world to Islam. Quite simply put, the world is going to eventually see a mighty showdown between the SUNNI and the SHIA MUSLIMS. Most of the Sunni Moslems have heretofore been allied with the West. Saudi Arabia has been the most prominent leader of Islamic cooperation with the West. The Shia Moslems scream vitriolic hatred at the West. To the Shia Muslims, the United States is "The Great Satan." Shia Muslims largely hate Sunni Muslims, in part because they tolerate the West. According to the Bible prophecies, it appears that we are going to see a major conflict between the Sunnis and the Shias. The ANTICHRIST will most-likely be a SHIA MUSLIM. Please read my article "IS EZEKIEL'S WAR ARMAGEDDON?" (link provided at the end of this article). You will see that the SUNNI Muslims will be aligned with the UNITED STATES AND BRITAIN in the run-up to Armageddon, and RUSSIA, CHINA, and IRAN will be aligned against them. The coalition of Russia, China, and Iran will support the SHIA MUSLIM position. As I write this article, IRAN is moving its Navy warships into the territorial waters off the coast of Israel. I cannot predict the exact unfolding of this scenario, but the Bible prophecy explicitly says that Egypt will push against the Assyrians (Iran, or Syria, or Turkey, or all three). I expect to see Egypt quickly become a far more radical-Sunni-Islamist-controlled state in the near future. I expect to see a power struggle between the SUNNI controlled Egyptian military establishment and the SHIA-controlled Iranian Revolutionary Guard and/or its Navy. According to the prophecies, Egypt will PUSH against (Iran? Syria?) and Iran/Syria (possibly backed by Russia and/or China) will defeat them, taking control of the Egyptian forces. The WORST OF ALL CONSEQUENCES will be the ultimate hazard for the State of Israel. With the loss of Egypt as a peace-partner, Jordan is likely to suffer the same fate. Israel is likely to find itself ENTIRELY SURROUNDED by hostile enemy forces in the near future. One of the worst, and most alarming components of all these developments is the complicity of the United States. It appears that Barack Hussein Obama is not going to do anything to stop the Muslim Brotherhood from ruling the day. His disturbing speeches in Cairo given in June, 2009, were clearly sympathetic to Islam, and in fact, the Obama administration was careful to invite the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood to that speech. When Jesus returns to Jerusalem for the battle of Armageddon, He is probably going to meet a SHIA-CONTROLLED international army, comprised of troops from around the world. This suggests that in the future, the SHIA MUSLIMS will gain significantly more leverage at the United Nations, and will be able to call out an International, UN-approved army against Israel. Ultimately, the uprising/revolution that is now underway in Egypt appears to be leading to the very fulfillment of those prophecies.
