The year 2000 loomed like an obelisk on a stark horizon, attracting every eye to its mystical significance. What was so important about the year 2000?  2000 A.D. was the threshold into a new millennial world. 

There is an almost magical belief that the 21st Century will be a Brave New World where we will enter into an entirely new era, a more primitive time can be forgotten, and all newly acquired genius will take us closer to utopia. 

In what Malachi Martin refers to as the "Millennial Endgame," a small number of international icons race as it were to the moon to see whose flag can first be raised there.

THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH?

The late Pope John Paul II, head of what claims to be the largest Christian denomination in the world, worked feverishly to raise the Roman Catholic flag on that horizon. He choreographed a coming together of all the major religions of the world to Jerusalem in the year 2000. In conjunction, the Roman Catholic Church celebrated the Great Jubilee 2000 in Rome.

An Apostolic Letter of Pope John Paul II dated November 14, 1994, "As the Third Millennium Draws Near (Tertio Mellennio Adveniente)" stated, "It was with the Second Vatican Council that... the immediate preparations for the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 were really begun." "Since the publication of the very first document of my pontificate I have spoken explicitly of the Great Jubilee, suggesting that the time leading up to it be lived as 'a new Advent.'

It is my fervent wish to visit... Jerusalem and the Holy Land. It would be very significant if in the year 2000 it were possible to visit the places on the road taken by the people of God of the Old Covenant, starting from the places associated with Abraham and Moses, through Egypt and Mount Sinai, as far as Damascus, the city which witnessed the conversion of St. Paul." 

Even the Parliament of the World's Religions of the U.N. could scarcely contest the profound influence of the Pope over Christians, Jews and Moslems when he presides over an international ecumenical summit.

What is the purpose of a Pope conducting such an event? 

Since Vatican II (1962-1965), the Catholic church has had an ecumenical agenda of exercising spiritual supremacy over, not only all other Christian sects world-wide, but also asserting Catholic influence over every major non-monotheistic world religion as well. 

Ecumenical dialogue fueled by every possible compromise aims at breaking down the resistance of every non-Catholic, with their ultimate conversion in mind. "The eve of the year 2000 will provide a great opportunity, especially in view of the events of recent decades, for inter-religious dialogue, in accordance with the specific guidelines set down by the Second Vatican Council."

Vatican Information Service logs document the steady stream of the world's religious leaders visiting the Pope. He has entertained significant numbers of leaders of non-monotheistic religions, indicating his growing influence among non-Christians, including Hindu and Buddhist. 

In it he said, "The Church therefore, exhorts her sons, that through dialogue and collaboration with the followers of other religions,...they recognize, preserve and promote the good things, spiritual and moral, as well as the socio-cultural values found among these men." 

Is it any wonder, that in the course of reconciling with great non-Christian religions of the world, the Pope on October 24, 1996 declared to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences that Darwin's Theory of Evolution is "more than just a theory," and is compatible with the Christian faith?" This should play well to the secular audiences. 

Roman Catholicism has already become a de facto state religion to the United Nations, evidenced by the fact that the Pope is the only international religious leader to regularly address its General Assembly, and the Vatican Secretary of State is an official delegate to the UN General Assembly - the only religion officially granted membership in the body of world governments.

SOCIALISM?

Mikhail Gorbachev, formerly President of the USSR, also has a Socialist flag to wave on the millennial horizon. Although hailed as the one who "brought down Communism," he is an avowed lifetime Leninist and has steadfastly refused to renounce Marxism. 

In USA Today on October 28, 1996, Gorbachev defended Communism by saying: "There were certain guarantees of protection for the masses of people. The socialist tradition...goes back to Jesus Christ, not (Karl) Marx." 

As shocking as it is to see Communism attributed to Jesus Christ, it should not surprise us. Socialists around the world are now contending that Jesus was the first socialist. This teaching is known as Liberation Theology.

Gorbachev's international efforts in recent years afforded him incomparable and unprecedented influence with Globalists everywhere. In San Francisco, at the State of the World Forum held October 3-4, 1996, his "World Without Wars 2000" agenda was forwarded. "Our immediate task is to prepare one week without wars in the year 2000."

Gorbachev wrote in the New York Times, "It all started last year when the international Humanist Open Assembly met at the University of Santiago, Chile." It has since been organized and directed by many of the world's most preeminent humanists, socialists, liberation theologians and liberal anarchists. 

"The project's objective: a year-by-year campaign with a final goal of the cessation of all wars, even for just a week, in the year 2000 to demonstrate that a world without war can be a reality." 

A noble cause indeed, but not without strings attached! He added, "Another important task is the study of the new phenomena of international life and the necessity of improving international law, including the implementation of international law, and the subsequent application of its principles in the current policies of nations." 

In his advancing age, Gorbachev, once one of the loudest and clearest political voices in the world for the advancement of international law and the subjugation of all nations to it has passed the torch to numerous entities he formed to propagate his agenda. 

His international "Green Cross" organization is attempting similar supremacy in the areas of environmental and social concerns. All these projects ultimately require United Nations domination of every pertinent political, economic and religious issue among men.

Judi McLeod of the CanadaFreePress.com published an article in 2006 linking Mikhail Gorbachev and the San Francisco "State of the World Forum" - a globalist-socialist think-tank headquartered at our sacred Presidio, to powerful democrats who are presently sitting in very high places in Washington DC - Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha, Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer and others. You may not want to hear it, but if you will thoroughly investigate the entire political machine in Washington DC, you will quickly discover that it is SATURATED with left-wing, Socialist-minded Roman Catholics! Don't take my word for it. Look for yourself. In the United States, we are witnessing the complete overthrow of Capitalism, and the rise of Roman Catholic Socialism. America has just been shoved over the financial cliff into irreversible bankruptcy, and the virtual-one-party-government is shoving Socialism down the throats of all Americans. Curiously enough, Socialist agendas are now being heralded also by the Roman Catholic Church. Again and again, the Pontiff's speeches and encyclicals bear the same pro-socialist, anti-western, humanistic themes. 

Both the Roman Catholic Church and the world's Socialists are presently engaged in the vigorous promotion of global objectives that will ultimately endow and empower the United Nations as an unchallenged world government. Can their roles in these benevolent efforts go unrewarded in future UN power structures? There is a subtle, unannounced presumption that whoever dominates these international discussions will indeed reign for the entire New Millennium.

This conclusion, however, flies in the face of what Fundamental Christians draw from Revelation 20:6, 

"Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him A THOUSAND YEARS." 

We are presently on the brink of that millennium. 

In view of scriptural facts, we must believe that the New Millennium does NOT belong to the likes of the Pope, Gorbachev, the UN or any other world figure. 

The New Millennium belongs to Jesus Christ and His Church. 

Jesus' literal return to earth will occur in the near future. Following the Battle of Armageddon, Jesus Christ will set up His Kingdom in Jerusalem. Saints from all the ages will join Him, ruling the world in truth and righteousness for the New Millennium!
